2008 Birthday Bash Recap...

Our now annual tradition of having ONE birthday party for all the kids on the same day is now over for 2008. All four kids ended the day with smiles–success! (My original inspiration for this idea came from the Jeub family.)

I loved the idea of the birthday bash. My own family has somewhat done this, though nowhere near the level your family does. Between myself, my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, my family fills up the month of Jan. with birthdays. Seriously, there are two and three birhtdays in any given week of Jan. So many years ago, we would give gifts on the person's actual birthday, then have our birthday party all together at the end of the month.

Thank you for sharing this idea. We have 3 littles and counting and love this. It is so frantic getting everyone together and then when the party is over every one is tired and the day is gone. We have 3 birthdays less than a month apart and have decided to have our birthday bash in August right before the bday rush. Thank you for sharing your story!

OK -- we did it... pulled of a BASH -- although it really was rather small... maybe it should be called a Birthday Bee Bop or something. LOL!!

But I blogged about it... going to link your blog in the story!

THANKS again for the inspiration. We are going to do it again next year - Lord willing! We had a BLAST at our BASH! Ü

My daughter's birthday is December 19th and she usually gets "robbed" of any kind of birthday celebration. One year, I beleive she was turning 6 ot 7, we had a Halloween Birthday Party for her. It wasn't a party for the entire family, but we changed the date and it was a blast. On her actual birthday I usually give her a meaningful gift and a cake.

Last year my son turned 10. He gets embarrassed when he's the center of attention. I asked him, which he preferred, a party or the money (only a portion) I would have spent to go buy something he has been really wanting. He picked the money right away. He said that was the best birthday ever.

I wish I had a whole bunch of children. I would have a blast trying out the Annual Birthday Bash! We keep talking about having more children, but I am greedy and want 6 more, all at once!

Keep on having fun!

I've been speaking to my dear husband about this. We have 5 children and it still will make sense to do it this way. My kiddos are excited about getting to have a "friends" party every year. Ü We originally said "friends parties" when you are 6, 10 and 16. But this way -- they could invite friends every single year. Woo Hoo...

I will let you know how it turns out. We plan on doing it in June. 6 months from Christmas.

Thank you for the ideas... can't wait to "see you" on the telly!

May God bless you and His face shine upon you today!

[...] The reason is because…both families share about unmarried pregnancies. Miriam Heppner was very open about being a scared teenage mother 27 years ago when she and Spud conceived their oldest. As it turns out in the show, their oldest comes home at Thanksgiving and, with the TLC cameras rolling, lets everyone know that she is pregnant. Miriam and Spud responded with an incredible amount of love to the situation, but the disappointing reality of it is shown. Jemima, their oldest, is a beautiful young lady who, like Spud said, will be going through some tough times. She likely doesn’t doubt her parents’ love for her, though. Our life story is similar. Wendy was a teenage mom who gave birth at age 15 and 18. Both children are now adults living fruitful lives, ages 23 and 20. When the cameras were rolling at our home last September capturing all sorts of fun things like folding laundry, shopping, riding around in our bus, and preparing for our birthday bash, we felt led to be even more transparent. We shared about our oldest daughter who, like her mother, had a child out of marriage. Needless to say, we shared all and (we are grateful) our daughter agreed to tell the story. Unlike the Heppners, though, our response to Alicia was not nearly as loving and nonjudgmental. Our story had an unwritten end to it, one that included a dark separation that was nothing to be proud of. Revealing this was incredibly risky, you can imagine, but we believe God pressed on our hearts to be open with this. The blessings that have come out of this have been amazing. We have begun a miraculous reconciliation with Alicia that can literally be called a mountain-moving experience. Our next two daughters, Alissa and Cynthia, have journeyed with us in a more relational way in understanding conflicts between judgment and love. Our risks were humiliation and shame, but God has honored our stepping forth with a renewed vision for parenting and His Greatest Commandment. [...]

What a GREAT IDEA!

We have 11 children and will be doing this!

I'm going to print out the article and read it just before family prayer time tonight!
I'm so excited, I can't even imagine how "enthused" the rest of the family will be ;-0.

God bless the Jeubs! Can't wait to see you on TLC (we've been too "chicken" to be filmed! You are a brave and awesome family!)
