Grandma Frieda’s Love in the Kitchen

food

My Grandma Freda was a wonderful cook. She put me to work in the kitchen a lot. I loved to visit her because it meant there was always something bubbling away on her stove. Now that I look back on it, I can see that she loved serving her family more than I loved eating her delicious food.

What We DON’T Eat Saves Money

It isn't what we buy that is the question. It's what we DON'T buy.

We spend roughly $800 per month on groceries. We don’t go on extravagant shopping sprees every week. This surprises most people, even other large families who spend twice as much with half as many children. The question they ask is, “What on earth are you eating?” A better question may be, “What on earth aren’t you eating?”

Second, we start reading every single letter following the holidays, a couple every morning over breakfast. The kids love to hear about friends and other families, and we take the time to pray for each family we read about.

Difficult Teens

Troubled Teens

When my daughter IS sweet, I don’t even want to be lovely with her because I am so worn out, hurt and offended by her [earlier behavior]. I know that is not right, but I am struggling to get through it…”

Study: Having Many Children Is Healthier

A new study shows having 4+ children cuts heart disease in half

I’ve often had this eery suspicion: Perhaps having children is healthier than avoiding them. That’s been the case for me and most large family moms I know. A recent study validates my hunch over the popular assumptions.
