The Very Best Preparation for Your Kids

Lydia (2nd row, blue collar) and her partner, Lauren, received 5th place in Team-Policy debate two weeks ago. These sharp young people have the brightest futures!

Two of our children flew to Orange County this week to participate in the country’s largest homeschool speech and debate tournament, the Concordia Challenge. It is hosted by a friend of mine, coach extrodinaire Konrad Hack, forensics coach and teacher on the Concordia College staff. His words are persuasive.

Public Speaking

We all hope our children are confident leaders when they go off on their own. No other activity helps ensure such a launch than speech and debate.

I want to list a few people who have encouraged me to encourage you. I suppose everyone who leads a charge can point to certain people who were encouraging. Here are some endorsements I’ve received for Jeub’s Guide to Homeschool Speech & Debate.

Junior Speech Tournament in Colorado Springs

Get Behind Me, Satan!

Isaiah is pictured here preparing for his extemp speech at Camp.

Deep down you know what you should do. The right direction, though often difficult, is what you ought to choose. Instead, you listen to your adversary. Your little satan gets the best of you.

Is Debate Wrong?

I train debaters. My daughters (right) are debating their friends (from our club) at a tournament. There is nothing wrong with the training, and the skills learned are impeccable.

I would argue that those who refuse to debate insist to remain ignorant. Worse yet, they cling to worldviews that are likely wrong, like an atheist clinging to a godless universe when evidence is all around him.
